Forestry has long been an important part of the Cowichan Valley’s economy and rural landscape. During the development of the Modernized Official Community Plan (Bylaw 4373), concerns emerged that forestry and private forest landowners were not represented in the planning process. This letter to the Province highlights the importance of ensuring regional planning decisions recognize the role forestry continues to play in supporting families, jobs, and rural communities.
